The title of this painting varies from "what I saw in the water to
what the water gave me". It reflects a visual metaphor on what life gave Frida: one destructive experience after another. This painting inspired a song by Florence and the Machine. Written by Florence Welch with Francis White and produced by Paul Epworth; Welch decided to name the song "What the Water Gave Me" after seeing a Frida Kahlo painting.
