Blue Dancers

Edgar Degas is a French artist (19 July 1834 – 27 September 1917) famous for his work in painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing. This photo above is titled "Blue Dancers" is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism although he rejected the term, and preferred to be called a realist. A superb draughtsman, he is especially identified with the subject of the dance, and over half his works depict dancers. These display his mastery in the depiction of movement, as do his racecourse subjects and female nudes. His portraits are considered to be among the finest in the history of art.
Early in his career, his ambition was to be a history painter, a calling for which he was well prepared by his rigorous academic training and close study of classic art. In his early thirties he changed course, and by bringing the traditional methods of a history painter to bear on contemporary subject matter, he became a classical painter of modern life.

Carmen Cicero Art

This photo titled "looking back" by Carmen Cicero and his eariler work made an impression in the art world. He joined the acclaimed Periodot Gallery on Madison Avenue in New York in 1957 and by 1965, Cicero had won two Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowships and a Ford Foundation prize, and was in important exhibitions at such venues as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. During 1950's studied at Hunter College. After a fire destroyed his studio and a large body of his work in 1971, he moved from New Jersey to New York City.Cicero returned to figurative expressionism in the later 1970s before embarking on a new approach to his work in the late 1980s: A kind of expression difficult to define and variously termed by critics as "fantasy," "mystery," "surrealism" and "visionary." These works produce a peculiar atmosphere, a strange, enigmatic spell—images that linger in the unconscious mind. Filled with beautiful pieces—watercolors, paintings, drawings, and collages—this fine book offers an expansive survey of the life work of Carmen Cicero.

Surreal Artist

Rafal Olbinski is a Polish illustrator, painter, and educator, migrated to the United States in 1982 and shortly after started teaching in 1985 aat the school of Visual Arts in New York.

Greek Art

Grigoriou Panagiotis is a Greek Surreal Artist, Anthropologist and Historian. This art work titled "Exit to Life", conveys so many abstract ideas because the image depicts a couple of objects ( a female, a door, birds, sky, light, chess, black and red colors) combined together to allow for one's own fascinating interpretation.

American artist

*Todd Schorr, an American artist and part of the "Lowbrow" art movement (an underground visual art movement) or pop surrealism. His work has been featured in many books like Secret Mystic Rites (1998), Dreamland (2004), and American Surreal have been published by Last Gasp.

Indian Hunter

This  bronze statue by John Quincy Adams Ward of an 'Indian Hunter' is one of the oldest works on outdoor display in central park NYC. A copy of this statue marks the grave of John Quincy Adams Ward grave in Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana, Ohio (1830-1910).Quincy spent time with the Dakota Indian Tribe for inspiration and observations of Native Americans.

Birth Of Venus

Sandro Botticelli (1444-1510)- an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance.  Title of art is The Birth Of Venus. His work was overshadowed by Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo Da Vinci.

Tingatinga art

Artist Painter Edward Tingatinga was born in 1932 and in 1972 Tingatinga was accidentally killed by a policeman who mistook him for a fugitive, but his Tingatinga art style became popular in both Tanzania, Kenya, and a large part of East Africa. His subjects were stereotypical African icons, such as wildlife or savannah landscapes using recycled, low-cost materials, such as masonite squares, ceramic fragments, and bicycle paint.

Women Painter Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe was an American painter best known for her large-format paintings of natural forms, especially flowers and bones, and for her depictions of New York City skyscrapers and architectural and landscape forms unique to northern New Mexico. O’Keeffe made significant impact for women painters in an area of the American art community that had been exclusive dominated by men, and became one of America’s most celebrated cultural icons well before her death at age 98 in 1986. Diego Rivera

Diego Rivera was born in Guanajuato, Mexico in 1886 and began  painting at an early age; Rivera encountered the works of such great masters as Cézanne, Gauguin, Renoir, and Matisse. He began to study  Renaissance frescoes of Italy which are mural paintings done on fresh plaster. Diego is Considered the greatest Mexican painter of the twentieth century and his romance with Frieda Kahlo were a source of public intrigue. The above painting is titled "Peasants" and was produced in 1931.

Wounded Table

This painting is titled "wounded Table" and original painting measures approximately 4 feet by 8 feet. This painting reflects her version of the last supper.  Frida Kahlo painting this in 1940 during her divorce with Diego Rivera.

what I saw in the water

The title of this painting varies from "what I saw in the water to what the water gave me". It reflects a visual metaphor on what life gave Frida: one destructive experience after another. This painting inspired a song by Florence and the Machine. Written by Florence Welch with Francis White and produced by Paul Epworth; Welch decided to name the song "What the Water Gave Me" after seeing a Frida Kahlo painting.

Self -Portait

In 1947, Frida Kahlo created a self-portrait. At the base of the painting is a scroll in Spanish describing the painting which reads in English as: "I, Frida Kahlo, painted myself with the image from the mirror.  I am 37 years old, and it is the month of July of 1947 in Coyacan Mexico, place where I was born".

Garment Worker

The Garment District in NYC is located on the west side of Manhattan from about 25th street up to 42 street, and is also known as the Garment Center, the Fashion District, or the Fashion Center. The Garment Worker  is a life sized bronze sculpture by Judith Weller, depciting an immigrant man at a sewing machine. Weller came to the United States as an exchange student from Tel Aviv in 1957, and in 1978 submitted a 24-inch sculpture of her tailor father to the exhibition of the National Sculpture Society. This statute is in display On 7th Avenue between 39th and 40th st.

Socrates Sculpture Park

Located at the intersection of Broadway and Vernon Boulevard in Long Island city Queens, NY is a public area that displays outdoor art. It offers a Cinema program, Sculpting programs, and special exhibits all year long. The park is situated near the East River on the Queens side of the city across from Manhattan. Socrates Sculpture Park  is truly a hidden oasis.

Cleopatra's Needle

Egypt as sign of appreciation sent Cleopatra's Needle to the United States Government for U.S. assistance in the construction of the Suez Canal. This massive object weighs about thirty tons and is displayed in New York City's Central Park. This is probably the oldest object in Manhattan.

The Sphinx

A sphinx is a mythical creature with a lion's body and a human head or a cat head. Sphinxes are associated with architectural structures such as  tombs, religious sites and temples. If  it is too far to travel yet to Egypt to see the Great Sphinx, you can come to New York to see the Sphinx near the beaches of Long Island in Bayport route 27a located on the property of Fontana cement Company. "The inscription on this modern art creation reads: She who climbs to the sphinx's head, A millionaire will surley wed".
